ASSIGNMENT: Define a Place - The Escalators of Hunter West
For this assignment, I decided to get shots of the escalators in Hunter West. I didn't think they were particularly interesting when I first thought about them, but then I felt they are a part of the school that we take for granted until they are out of service. They disrupt the flow of traffic between floors and cause a bit of frustration for some when they are not working. Then at other times I see people (friends, classmates, couples) taking a few moments to talk about class, tell a joke, catch up with each other (if even for just a few seconds), hug, kiss... Then I started to think there is a lot more to the escalators than I originally thought.
My plan is too try recreate that experience of taking the escalator. The shots I plan to make are the following:
1. Wide open shot of the escalators from the first floor (people getting on)
2. Close up of escalator (looking up)
3. Close up of people's feet getting on the escalator (may be difficult with because of lighting and getting in people's way, but it will make an interesting shot I think).
4. On one of the floors get a side view shot of people going up and down the escalator.
5. Shot riding up the escalator, place the tripod on the escalator to catch movement. I'm not moving the camera, I'll be keeping it still, it will be the escalator that's moving.
(must be timed right)
6. Close up of people's feet getting off the escalator. (easy shot from the 7 floor, lighting is good and we wont really be in anyone's way).
7. Wide open shot of people getting off the escalator.
